I made this quilt after the disappointment I felt finding myself on the
wrong side of the earth when our solar system’s most famous comet went
by in 1986. Because some scientists speculate that it may have been
the dust from the tail of a comet that produced the climactic changes
that led to the demise of the dinosaurs, I included them in this piece.
It also makes reference to the antiquity of the comet and how it ties
us to the dinosaurs as earth inhabitants. It has flashed across the
sky both for them to see and for us to be awed by. The alligator in
the lower part of the quilt is a descendant of the dinosaurs who is
still sharing the earth with us.
