In experimenting with machine techniques of appliqué, reverse applique
and quilting that are relatively new to my work, I was seeking
inspiration for small quilts. The elephant ear plant that we plant
outside my studio window each year was beginning to turn yellow and die
for the season. The chartreuse color of the dying leaf is one of my
favorite colors and so I used the image as a study for the new
techniques that I am playing with these days. The red background is a
beautiful piece of hand dyed fabric that contrasts beautifully with the
greens in the leaves of the elephant ear.
