As an experiment in creating flower forms with geometric shapes I came up with 5 square flower blocks and 1 rectangular one. Instead of piecing the like flowers together in 6 separate quilts, I decided to create several quilts in which all the designs were included and the flowers arranged haphazardly as they might be in my own flower garden. The quilt completed previously to this experiment featured many hand appliqued birds and animals and I happened to have one swallow left over. When I placed it in the sky above the flower designs the image seemed to come together for me. That bit of hand work and curved lines is a good contrast to the hard, straight lines of the garden flowers.
