"Road Cut": Quilt Art by Rebekka Seigel

This is another machine appliquéd and quilted study created to hone new techniques in my work. The image is inspired by the poplar scrub trees that spring up along the new cuts in the rock made when the road was put through. The layers of the rock walls in the earthy grey and brown tones are the background for the poplar tree which is beginning to feel the change in the temperatures that signals the onset of fall. The rock fabrics are left with raw edges exposed to indicate the rough edges of the rocks as they have been cut.
