This quilt was created for an exhibit of my work in which I needed to fill up alot of wall space by myself. I love the music of Lyle Lovett and I especially like some of the images that his poetry evokes. The line “The sun comes up in a coffee cup” is one of those great images and was the inspiration for this piece. The cup is a rendition of one of the cups my husband makes which I start my day with everyday.

The color palette for this piece was based on the vintage flower fabric that shows up in the border of this quilt. I went through my fabric stash and pulled out only the fabrics that worked in that palette and limited myself to them. The dogs in the border and the newspaper print are both fabrics I had on hand.
